The exciting new Mississauga Development Program (MDP) gives any interested players the opportunity to be involved in a more extensive hockey experience.
The MDP is not limited to just a few highly skilled players. Enough teams will be created to offer a spot for everyone wanting to play. The MDP will run in conjunction with 2 other existing organizations in the Greater Toronto Area. The CDS group was founded in 2018 and involves 4 central Toronto associations. The CDP group was founded in 2021 and involves 6 west Toronto associations. Both groups have had great successes with their programs and are eager to add the Mississauga associations to the group. Players in the MDP will participate in the regular Mississauga Hockey League (MHL) house league division which will play approximately 18 games during the year along with 20 to 22 practices. In addition, MDP participants will have some additional practices and play an extra game approximately every 2 weeks against other teams from the CDS & CDP neighboring hockey organizations. This will add around 8-10 additional games and practices per season. MDP teams may also choose to participate in tournaments or festivals throughout the season. There are additional costs to playing on a MDP team. Your convenor will have details available by the start of the season. MDP games will begin in October after Thanksgiving and will not be scheduled over holidays or during the public school system March Break. Mississauga Development Program games will follow the Hockey Canada and Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) Player Development Model as outlined below: • Players of all skill levels are welcome. • Teams will be tiered, so they are playing against other teams of similar ability. • Rosters of 18 players (16 skaters, 2 goalies.) so you play every other shift for lots of ice time. • Line changes - 2-minute buzzers, no stoppage. • During game play teams will be divided into two squads of 9 players (8 skaters, 1 goalie.)
• Two games will be played simultaneously in a 5-on-5 format (plus goalies.) • U8 Games will be played in a half-ice format.
